Hello

My name is Takako Day, a Japanese (Asian) writer from
Illinois, and I visitted the museum Last Saturday, 21st of July. I had uncomfortable experience at the museum and that is why I am now writing to you. I know my English is not good enough to write about sensitive matter as I am not a native speaker of English. First of all I would like to ask you for your patience and generosity. I talked about my experience with a middle aged woman with glasses at a
musuem cafe, with hispanic background who served as hostess then and also with a young girl at the entrance as you were not in the office on Saturday.
The following is my idea about my experience at the museum and I do hope my experience will help improve the museum's operation for the future.

1 What happened
1) I was looking for an indian jewelry bracelet which fit my big wrist at museum gift shop. A young, good looking woman with darker skin color (I guess she is an native american, but am not sure as many people in NM seem to have mexican background) served me but she was so mean to me and treated me poorly. I did not feel at all that I was welcome. I was almost apologetic about asking her to show me bracelets, but finally she showed me just a price tag at back of the bracelet and not even let me see or touch the item as if I am going to steal it. She did not speak any words to me while serving me. I was so
uncomfortable and felt that I was not respected at all, actually looked down by her.

2) When I went to the cafe after the gift shop, the above mentioned hostess took me to the table, but nobody came to my table to take an order, even for an drink. I waited for a while about 10 minutes, but nobody came. Then I saw the white couple came in and sitting down at an table, then a waitress rushed to the table before they even sat down. When I saw it, I learned that I was ignored and rejected at the cafe. The hispanic hostess passed by me and asked me, you are not yet
served?. I answered, no. She said that they are so intimidated by a person who speaks English with accent and that she would send me somebody right away. I said no and left the cafe.
