(続き) 2 Issues and my idea 1) I do not know the salesgirl's personality but I have an impression that she is not good at customer service, to compare with other women at the shop. If she is usually good at her work, I am sorry to say but I have to point out she did discriminate me due to my appearance and my linguistic problem. I saw her attitude had some courtesy to white couple customer although she was not talkative to them either. 2) That I was ignored at the cafe has no excuse, I believe. The hostess immediately could point out the problem, i.e. who waitresses can serve easily and who they cannot, which is completely wrong. 3) I was more shocked than at any other places because the museum is educational place, and I expected that it not only teaches people about local indian history and cultures, but also shows bigger perspective on the socity and the country itself which discriminated indians for so long. In this sense the special exhibit was very good and informative to me. I believe what I went through at the museum goes completely againt the museum' mission and that employees at at the museum should understand that. Therefore I would like to tell you that The musuem needs employee training, to be tolerant and understading toward diversty of the society, especially toward people who speak English with accent, especially because native americans won back right of language freedom and know that language is identity. I personally want to bellieve that native americans can understand meaning and importance of English with accent more than any other Americans. I lived in South Dakota for seven years and visited Pine Ridge Reservation many times and wrote a book on Oglala Lakota people in Japanese about ten years ago. I liked the reservation so much; I felt so free, away from narrow minded, discriminatory attitude of local white people. But this time in New Mexico I learned that indians situations varies so much and that if urban indians absorb disciminatory hierarchy of race and language etc of the white society, that is also wrong and nobody disagrees, I believe. Urban indians in Chicago are also in quite a different situation from people in Albuquerque, too. Thank you to take your time and with my favorite indian word-Mitakuye Oyasin Takako Day DeKalb, IL
